In Family Court: All Paths lead to the Child
“I wish there was a law that judges could make so parents could get back together after they ‘get over it.’ Can divorce ever get undone?” A valid question presented by a young child.
Most likely, the answer is more complicated than a yes, or no response.
Parenting plans and the legal logistics for custody matters vary to accommodate the needs and schedules of everyone. Personalities and the emotions of each family member create a labyrinth of epic proportions involving emotional, physical, and social implications for families, individually and collectivley.
The scientific knowledge we have about attachment, the emotional development of the child, and parental conflict show us that regardless of where we are in the process, all paths lead to the child. Legislative efforts and the custody process contribute to the terminology used, court procedures, and shared parenting laws.
